Cape Town
Nestled between magnificent mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, with pristine beaches, a thriving nightlife and a multicultural population, Cape Town is a young city. As home to four universities, international students make up a significant proportion of the student population, whether working towards a degree or learning English.
Perched on the tip of Africa, in Cape Town you are never far away from nature. Zebra and wildebeest can be seen grazing on the slopes of Table Mountain, while sun-bathers can watch whales and dolphins breaching the waves of False Bay. Further afield, families of baboons linger by the roadside at Cape Point, and thousands of penguins stand to attention on the beach in Boulders Bay.
It is no surprise that the beauty of Cape Town has been an inspiration to artists for centuries and is home to much of the country’s contemporary art scene. Dozens of galleries and studios, as well as trendy bars, world-class restaurants, and designer shops give the city a cool, urban edge. Beyond the city’s limits, visitors can also explore our regional specialties – tasting some of the Cape’s world-famous wines, watching spring flowers blooming in desert landscapes, or exploring tiny fishing villages dotted along the starkly beautiful coast.
But the thing you will remember most from your time in Cape Town is its people. A cosmopolitan melting pot, whose unique position as the gateway to Africa has made it a cultural crossroads and a truly international city. Whether sipping sundowners at a beachside bar or chatting round the Braai, Capetonians are a relaxed and friendly bunch, and that’s why after you visit us once, you’ll want to come back again and again.
