Certificates and Transcripts
Official documents you’ll receive after your course
Earning Your UCT Certificate
When you successfully complete your course at ELC, you will receive a University of Cape Town certificate and an official academic transcript. These documents are issued by UCT and reflect your progress and achievements. As part of a globally recognised university, your certificate and transcript add value to your learning experience and can support your future academic or professional goals.
Attendance and Completion Requirements
To be eligible for your certificate, you must meet the attendance requirement of at least 85 percent of scheduled lessons. Attendance is closely monitored, as it forms an essential part of the completion criteria. Each 50-minute lesson is counted individually. The morning core session from 9:00 to 13:00 consists of four 50-minute lessons, while each afternoon elective is worth two and a half attendance points. Students who arrive late to a lesson are considered absent for that lesson. For example, arriving late to the morning session would result in earning three attendance points instead of four. Attendance records can be checked at any time using the MyELC app. If attendance drops below the required level, ELC will issue an attendance warning to help students stay on track.
Graduation and Certification
Certificates and transcripts are issued on the final day of the course, which falls on a Friday, during a graduation ceremony. This is a special moment where students celebrate their achievements, and many choose to give a short speech in English. General English certificates reflect the exit level of the student. If a student starts at the elementary level and progresses to the intermediate level, the certificate will state intermediate level. The official academic transcript lists all completed course levels. In the same example, the transcript will show elementary, pre-intermediate, and intermediate levels.
ELC Course Codes
All ELC courses are registered and accredited UCT courses, approved through the university’s academic quality assurance processes. The certificate and transcript serve as official recognition of your studies and provide valuable credentials for further education or career advancement. Below is a list of our courses along with their UCT course codes.
