Every Friday we have graduation at ELC, and our lovely students get presented with their hard-earned certificates. They also get the chance to say a few words to everyone at the school (fellow students, teachers and staff). This is a special moment for each and every student because it marks the end of a phenomenal experience in not only their English learning journey, but also their whole adventure in the spectacular city of Cape Town with a multicultural group of students. Below are a few graduation day speeches by some of the students (chosen at random).

“First of all, I’m so thankful to my brother because it was he who offered me to study English. First of all, I was like South Africa? Why? But now I understand why. Probably I have had the best experience in my life learning a beautiful language, with completely beautiful teachers and describing this beautiful city with completely beautiful people. So, I am very happy to be here. And first of all, I would like to say thank you to my teachers because, I don’t know how you do that, but really, every person who was my teacher here is a GREAT person. I don’t know, maybe someone who is responsible for Human Resources at ELC uses some magic, I’m sure! So, now I feel really confident with my English – maybe I shouldn’t, but I can feel it. And I would also like to say thank you to Kirsten for her every day smile and for her help for all of us. And of course I want to use this moment to say one more time, that thank you to my school mates and to express my love to them because thank you for being so nice, so open minded, so friendly, with me and with everybody. Yes, and now I know that I have friends and family all around the world but especially in Saudi of course. I hope to be back here, and I hope to see all of you. Maybe you will come to Moscow because my doors are open and will be open for all of you, always, not only for [you] guys, but also for teachers, so use this opportunity! Thank you very much.”

“Sadly, I’m leaving today. I know it’s the worst experience you scored. Thank you really for all staff in ELC. From Kirsten we start with the lovely smile and to Monica. Thank you for all teachers. Teacher Alex I have worked with him for 5 months. Really, I don’t learn from him just IELTS techniques and strategy, but also how you can use every minute in the class. I learned a lot about… I think ELC is not just about English, but also education. I learned about climate change, economic effects, water shortage – a lot of water shortage – Thank you for all students from everywhere: Colombia, Taiwan, Korea, China, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Dubai, Congo, what else? Put your hand up everyone! Sudan! Different cultures, different students, and we are all here as a family. Thank you for everything!”

“I really enjoyed the time I spent here at ELC because first of all I improved a lot my English and secondly I met a lot of people. I met a lot of friends, I have been taught by amazing teachers and I just want to tell you that I will really really miss you and I’m too glad to leave you today because I really want to extend my courses here to stay with you guys, but I can’t do that. So, I just want you to know that wherever I will go, whatever I will do, whoever I will become, I will always miss one thing – your presence.”

“I’m a serious person today. First of all I want to say thanks to all of you; my friends, my classmates, my teachers, ELC – because I really had a good time here. It was wonderful, it was amazing every time. I’m so lucky because I could learn a lot about different countries, different cultures, and I’m so lucky too, because I could teach you about my country and how are the Colombian people. So, thank you so much, I’m going to miss you and enjoy your time here!”
