ELC Social Programme
Cape Town is full of great places to see and things to do. At ELC we have a dedicated Social Programme Coordinator, who schedules a number of trips and activities every week which are displayed on this page, and on the notice board where students can sign up to attend. If students have ideas, or if there is anything they think we should be doing and places we should be going, we encourage them to talk to us and let us know so we can make sure they make the most of their stay in Cape Town.
As a UCT student you are also welcome to attend a wide range of UCT events and public lectures. This includes theatre performances and art exhibitions run by our neighbouring departments on Hiddingh Campus.

The Constitution – Intention vs Implementation
May 5 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
The Oliver & Adelaide Tambo Foundation hosts the first in the “Unfinished Business of Liberation” webinar series.
This webinar explores South Africa’s exemplary constitution. It incorporates hard-won political and civil rights, and a plethora of socio-economic rights. In this webinar, Justice Albie Sachs will explain what the foundations of the Constitution are and what its desired outcomes were. He will then be joined by Ms Thandiwe Matthews who will give her views on the topic as a young attorney and social justice PhD candidate. Ultimately, the webinar aims to answer important questions such as: is the Constitution a vehicle for meaningful growth and transformation? Should it be reformed to better implement its provisions? More importantly, what are the discrepancies between the ideals laid out in our constitution and the lived reality of the majority of people?
