Message from the Principal

The last few weeks have seen unprecedented events unfolding across the world as governments put in place measures to protect the public against the COVID-19 pandemic.  These measures have led to almost all language schools closing their doors until further notice, and students putting their courses on hold and returning home.  At the University of Cape Town all academic activities have been suspended until further notice.

At ELC our first and foremost priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students and colleagues.  To this end all face to face classes were suspended on 13th March and teaching and learning moved online.  Our online classes make use of the powerful Google Classroom online learning platform and National Geographic Life coursebook.  The pace and suddenness with which this has happened has been a challenge for all of us, but as I write online classes are taking place across all courses and levels.  I am deeply grateful and proud of our academic and support teams for making this happen.

At this difficult and often isolating time we would like to do what we can to provide our community of students an opportunity to interact and engage with one another and continue their learning.  For this reason we have decided to offer all current and future students free online lessons during the months of April and May.  For further information please see our free online lessons announcement and addendum to the terms and conditions of sale.  This is a small gesture in the grand scheme of things but I hope that it will provide some comfort and diversion to our students and enable them to continue working towards their language goals.

Although ELC is closed for on-site enquiries our team remains available to deal with any questions you may have.  If you need to get hold of us, you can email elc@uct.ac.za, phone +27 21 650 4161, or WhatsApp +27 71 499 4521.  We’re here to help.

We wish all our students, colleagues and partners the best of health. Thank you for your continued support and if you have any questions please do contact us.
