Past Student Feedback

Student feedback is an important tool for us to learn how we can improve on student experiences. We have put a list of reviews together from our past students for you, our future student, to get honest feedback on what they liked about our school.

Student Feedback | UCT English Language Centre

Throughout 2016 and now, coming towards the end of the first quarter of 2017, we have collected some feedback from our past English students to share with our new and incoming English students.

Feedback and Reviews are an important way for us to be able to share with you, a new student, what our past students thought about their time with us. These reviews are 100% written by the students themselves, in their own time, and reflect what they found the most important about their time with us at UCT English Language Centre.

These reviews were either sent to us via email after a student left, or this was compiled from the feedback form that every single student who is graduating will fill out for us.

In this feedback form we ask students about the classes, teaching, the school, the campus, their accommodation and other general feedback.

We don’t always score a clean 100% with every student. This could be because a student felt that the course book was boring and they would have enjoyed a different one. Or, some students enjoyed their holiday a bit too much and missed the 85% attendance rate to receive a certificate from us. But we can openly say that if a valid and genuine concern is raised by our students, we try really hard to fix it so that we can continue to receive the great feedback we do from our current and past students, and pass this on to you – our new student!

You can follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to keep up with what we are doing and get a taste of what is coming your way when you join us in Cape Town.

I absolutely love how the teaching is done… I really like the good relationship between teachers, staff and students. Thanks for all.”

The teachers (Catherine, Alex, Il-haam & Liam) were all always well prepared, open to discussions, explaining grammar and answering voc-questions very well. They all found real good introductions into discussion-topics.
Thanks a lot for being very friendly, open-minded and flexible!
Thank you Juliette for everything!

I enjoyed every moment of my classes and I have benefitted from them. The teaching skills/techniques are very good and helps one to learn on their own comfort zone.
Nosipho | South Africa

It is a promising and creative school. Best of all is being able to make friends with people from around the world and learn more about their experience and culture.
Thank you for all.

My favourite destinations were UK, Ireland, Australia, America and Canada. With these countries, visa process require lot of sacrifice and explanations for people coming from under-developed countries, therefore I couldn’t have enough time for visa arrangements with those countries and I preferred to deal with African Countries. I realised that South Africa was the only African country with English native speakers. I choose UCT ELC for three mains reasons: first it’s the best African University, secondly it offers a flexible program without any condition of duration and registration period and thirdly its accommodation are near the campus with other students.
Although I would like to spend four months at UCT to improve my English, I was available for only one month. Despite having few time, I notice that my English was improved more than I could expect. This improvement is due to few people in my class with good interaction between students and teachers.
My aim was successful achieved with qualified and lovely teachers. UCT ELC was better but it can make more than better to become the best not only in Africa but in the World.

I chose to attend my English course at the ELC of the UCT, where I found a very international atmosphere and I met many of my closest friends. We spend a lot of time together studying but also enjoying in new activities (surfing, hiking, beaches, mountains, hills, food markets, events, tours…)
I found a very interesting and serious course, and I was very happy about the well trained and experienced teachers, able to involve me in the lessons choosing topical issues and modern and dynamic methods of teaching.
I had not given much thought before departure and destination, it has been a spontaneous choice, but nothing has disappointed me in these 3 months, everything has been an exciting surprise. It looked like if what you want something, it can happen in CT.
In Cape Town I was able to travel, meet new friends, study, share new experience, try new sports, enjoy in every situation, rediscover myself and my astonishment… a wonderful start to the new chapter of my life!

I choose the English Language Centre because flexibility of the course, the location, small amount of students and the good communication from the school. I started with the intermediate course and I grew to Upper Intermediate. I got the opportunity to experience the different levels. All the teachers are highly educated, open minded and are teaching in an inspiring way. The management team is flexible and supportive and helped me with my visa. I also learned more of the culture in South Africa through the combination of the school trips. I must say, the view that I had from the classroom is the best I ever had. My English developed a lot and I met wonderful people from all over the world.

Teaching was great fun and helpful. A great experience! It is a great and friendly environment to study, very multicultural as well. The UCT English language Centre is very helpful for anyone trying to learn or improve their English.

In my humble opinion, Our teachers are very patient with us and the way to teach is very nice and clear to understand. They are highly qualified and completely committed to providing the best quality of learning. Clearly the improvement depends of each student, because we all don’t have the same rate of learning. But for me, they are the best that I’ve had. The classrooms are comfortable and the student’s number in each class is good. Thank you.”

It’s a great pleasure for me to recommend about the UCT English Language Center. I was looking for a place that could help to improve my English proficiency, when I found the place described here. I had looked for in several other countries, before I was aware of the benefits learning in Cape Town.
Firstly, this university situated in one of the most interesting city of the world, Cape Town. Cape Town’s location gives you the opportunity to enjoy the nature environment as well as from city’s life. Furthermore, the English Language Center located in the Faculty of Humanities at UCT, which located in the city center. So, if your dream is to study with great experience side by side, this is the right place for you.
Another issue may be the quality of teachers. From my point of view, I would like to describe my teachers with widely knowledge in education and teaching English, in addition to being eager to teach as much as possible. For instance, People who accompany me at the university are highly motivated to help me achieve my goals. I can easily depict the sensation as home and family for success!
I’m highly recommending about the University of Cape Town and this particular department.
Good luck to you
Best,

To be honest, ELC is for me a second house, not only because of its facilities, but because of its organisation, education and people that I’ve met there. Everything is very well, its doors are open for students at any time and you cannot study at ELC and return to your home as you came. It’s just a special place .”

I really enjoyed my stay at UCT ELC. Out of many teachers during my time in different language schools in Cape Town, I can say the way of teaching from Juliette and Chgristelle were the best. Thank you for this great experience.
I wish you all the best for ELC.
